Banners welcome students, visitors

Two years ago, the approach to St. Cloud State from any direction offered few clues to the presence of an excellent regional university in the city of St. Cloud. Now, thanks to strengthened community partnerships and a “St. Cloud PROUD ” university marketing plan, there’s no mistaking St. Cloud is becoming a true university town.
Red St. Cloud State banners line the University Drive, University Bridge and mark walkways around and through campus. Black city and university banners alternately flank Minnesota Highway 23 from the new Granite City Crossing Bridge to Seventh Avenue. And the “Welcome College Students” signs in businesses around the city reflect a new day in the physical and philosophical relationship between campus and community.
From the soon-to-be-expanded Civic Center three blocks north of Division on Fifth Avenue to the planned renovation of the National Hockey Center into a Hockey and Event Center on the south end of campus, Fifth Avenue will become a grand corridor to link downtown, the South Side neighborhood and campus.
