Achieving excellence in information assurance
Monday, October 26, 2009
The Department of Homeland Security and the National Security Agency have designated St. Cloud State a National Center of Academic Excellence in Information Assurance Education. This makes St. Cloud State one of only 106 institutions recognized for reducing vulnerability in the national cyber infrastructure.
The designation makes scholarships and internships possible for St. Cloud State computer security students. Recipients are guaranteed a job with the Department of Defense. The designation also enables St. Cloud State to apply for computer and information security grants worth millions of dollars. Grant topics include design and maintenance of computer networks, digital forensics and detection and prevention of cyber intrusions. The university already has received $92,000 in grants to fund a full-ride scholarship and new equipment such as a forensic station that examines cell phones.
