St. Cloud State has been designated a National Center of Academic Excellence in Information Assurance Education (CAEI AE) by the National Security Agency (NSA), making it one of only 94 institutions of such status in the nation.
Last year, St. Cloud State was certified by NSA and the Committee on National Security Systems as offering courseware that meets the national training standards of professionals and risk analysts. Computer security efforts at St. Cloud State are coordinated by the Center for Information Assurance Studies (CIAS), an interdisciplinary effort between the G.R. Herberger College of Business and the College of Science and Engineering.
Mark Schmidt, founder and interim director of CIAS, stresses that CIAS provides a supportive learning environment in which students develop in-depth knowledge in various domains of information assurance. The mission of CIAS is to facilitate cyber security research, education and practice.
CAEI AE, sponsored by NSA and the Department of Homeland Security, aims to reduce vulnerability in the national information infrastructure by promoting higher education and research in information assurance.
