Funding for three construction projects and needed facility repairs were included in the bonding bill approved by the Minnesota Legislature this spring:
- $15 million to complete planning and renovation of 75,000 square feet in Brown Hall for general science education as well as nursing, communication sciences and disorders and continuing studies programs. The nursing program is currently housed in leased facilities off campus.
- $900,000 in planning funds to create a 102,000-square-foot integrated science and engineering laboratory facility. St. Cloud State originally sought $1.9 million but the $900,000 will allow the first phase of planning to begin with construction anticipated to start in 2011. Construction funds will be requested in the 2010 session.
- $6.5 million towards an addition and renovation project at the National Hockey Center. The St. Cloud Civic Center, for which the City of St. Cloud received $2 million, and the National Hockey Center are the anchors of the Fifth Avenue development project jointly planned by the city, St. Cloud State and private enterprise. The project will require that St. Cloud State raise a sizeable amount in private funds, as the plans could increase to $28 million and create an event center, additional seating and student-athlete facilities.
- Nearly $3.5 million in Higher Education Asset Preservation & Replacement funds for heating and ventiliation system improvements as well as roof replacement.
