Making a choice
Saturday, March 1, 2008
An alcohol awareness and education program introduced by St. Cloud State at the beginning of the 2007-08 school year has proved to be very popular. More than 1,000 students have signed up and participated in U-Choose (www.stcloudstate.edu/uchoose), a 90-minute interactive program that helps them understand how high risk drinking can lead to negative consequences.
The popular program has now received the attention of Greek houses on campus and landlords with rental properties in the area. Delta Zeta sorority will require completion of the program for students who want to live in the sorority house, and other sororities and fraternities are considering the same requirement. And Patrick Mastey, who has rental units in his St. Cloud residential properties, will be making U-Choose completion a requirement for renting a unit beginning this summer, a decision that will affect about 150 renters this year.
