Banking leader opens speaker series

Brian H. Myres ’83, head of sales for ING DIRECT U.S.A., the nation’s largest online bank, was featured for the first event in the Herberger College of Business Fall Executive Leadership Speaker Series. He discussed “The Power of Brand, Culture and Values in Today’s Business World.”

Myres told the crowd that opportunities appear in front of us every single day: “The difference between those who make it and those who don’t is seizing the moment.”

Myres has 31 years of experience with community banks, regional banks and Fortune 500 financial services companies. He served as president of ReliaStar Bank and Citizens Savings Bank, for which he was one of seven charter investors. He is vice chair of the Central Minnesota Community Foundation, a member of the Herberger College of Business Dean’s Advisory Board, board and executive committee member of the Central Minnesota Council Boy Scouts of America, executive committee member of St. Cloud Opportunities and chair of the City of St. Cloud’s government reform and efficiency task force, and he has been a member of numerous other non-profit organizations.

Myres earned his bachelor’s degree in finance at St. Cloud State and is a graduate of the Minnesota School of Banking at St. Olaf College and the School for Bank Administration at the University of Wisconsin Madison.

The Herberger College of Business is also sponsoring an Emerging Topics Speaker Series featuring Hank Shea, Center for Business Ethics, University of St. Thomas, on the subject of white collar crime on Nov. 5 and Nancy Rehkamp, principal in the health care practice of LarsonAllen, who will discuss health care in the age of technology on Dec. 3.
