The National Security Agency (NSA) used the opportunity of an information systems colloquium on industrial cyber security, held in June in Dallas, Texas, to recognize St. Cloud State. The university received an award and certification for offering a group of courses that meet NSA standards for computer security.
Nine courses in business computer information systems and seven courses in computer networking and applications were certified as including the several hundred elements of the national training standards established by NSA information systems security professionals and risk analysts.
The certification recognizes work done to reduce vulnerabilities in the national information infrastructure by producing professionals with information assurance expertise in various disciplines.
The certification also means St. Cloud State is on its way to becoming a Center of Academic Excellence in Information Assurance Education, which would make the university eligible for substantial NSA funding for program development and student scholarships.
