Speeding trip to nursing careers
Thursday, November 1, 2007
Recruiting has begun for the second cohort in an accelerated program that makes it possible for anyone with a bachelor’s degree – in any field – to earn a bachelor's degree in nursing in 16 months.
Classes, which prepare graduates to take the exam for licensure as registered nurses (RNs), will begin next fall for graduation in December 2009.
The program builds on previous knowledge and learning experiences with a blend of classroom instruction, online courses, simulated learning laboratory and clinical practice. Members of the charter class, who will graduate in December, include the holder of degrees in performance music, a sports kinesiologist and a mother of two pre-schoolers who once worked as a nursing assistant.
The accelerated program was developed in response to the nationwide shortage of registered nurses, currently projected to reach 340,000 by the year 2020.
