The university’s master’s degree in applied behavioral analysis has earned a top 10 “best buy” ranking by an online clearinghouse designed to help consumers compare online degrees. The national ranking by GetEducated.com is based on a survey of 26 regionally accredited universities that offer distance master's degrees.
SCSU ranks number five on GetEducated.com’s Best Buy list for the distance master’s in applied behavioral analysis. State residents pay about $14,493 for the entire master’s while non-residents can expect to pay $15,700. By comparison, the average cost for a distance master’s in the human services career area is about $19,000, with the cost running as high as $34,000.
The Department of Educational Leadership and Community Psychology in the SCSU College of Education initiated what was then the world’s first behavior analysis online master’s program in 2001. Students in the program can earn the degree -start to finish - without leaving their home communities or jobs.
Applied behavior analysis degree-holders work in such areas as autism, self-injurious behavior, developmental disabilities, fetal alcohol syndrome, gerontology, organizational performance management, behavioral safety, chemical dependency, traumatic brain injury, even animal and pet training.
