The University is turning in an exciting new direction with introduction this fall of its first doctoral program, an applied doctorate in higher education administration.
The decision to offer the degree was made after a market analysis by the Minnesota State Colleges and Universities system indicated that Minnesota will need 130 new or replacement post-secondary administrators annually through 2012; demand in the five-state area is expected to reach 370 annually through 2012. SCSU is now one of only two public institutions in the state to offer the doctoral degree in higher education administration
The charter cohort of 20 students, all fulltime professionals already in higher education, can expect to have their doctorates in nine semesters, i.e., three years.
The doctorate complements the SCSU College of Education introduction of a master’s in higher education administration three years ago. Forty-three students are in the program, preparing for entry- and mid-level leadership positions at two- and four-year higher education institutions.
