SCSU Now Welcome BackWednesday, August 11, 2010
More than 17,000 students are returning to St. Cloud State as the Aug. 23 start of the academic year draws near. Greeting them, and other area college students, are 13 billboards on major thoroughfares and a 103-page Welcome Back Resource Guide. "This is the third year we've teamed with area colleges to embrace our returning students," said Loren Boone, assistant vice president for marketing and communications. "The resource guide and billboards celebrate the longstanding interdependence among the campuses and communities,"Boone said. The billboards feature students from St. Cloud State, St. Cloud Technical & Community College, College of Saint Benedict and Saint John's University. The free guide, produced in cooperation with Times Media, is available on the four campuses, at other area post-secondary schools and in apartment buildings near St. Cloud State, according to Marla Warner, custom publishing executive for Times Media. The guide contains feature stories, athletic team schedules, advertisements and more. Seven of the billboards are on display. Another six go on display after Aug. 15. Here are three key locations:
The St. Cloud State students on the billboard are Richard Quach, Coon Rapids, and Thandeka Chiinze, Brooklyn Park. The St. Cloud Technical & Community College student is Kendra Coe, Ventura, Iowa. The College of Saint Benedict student is Brooke Peterson, Cokato. The St. John's student is Michael Short, Boise, Idaho. Each year the St. Cloud area welcomes more than 30,000 students to post-secondary institutions.
