The dean of the College of Education is stepping down.
Kate Steffens has resigned to become dean of the Riley College of Education and Leadership at Walden University, a Minneapolis-based, for-profit, online college.
Steffens came to St. Cloud State in 1998 as associate dean of the College of Education. She subsequently served as assessment director, interim associate vice president for academic affairs, Special Education faculty member and dean.
Under her leadership, private gifts and federal and foundation grants strengthened the College of Education’s scholarship offerings and expanded its efforts to improve teacher quality.
Steffens spearheaded the nation's first online National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education (NCATE) accreditation self-study processes.
NCATE is one of eight organizations that have accredited the College of Education.
She was a co-leader of the self study and team visit that updated the university's accreditation by the Higher Learning Commission of the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools. That accreditation dates back to 1915.
Walden University is part of the Baltimore-based Laureate Higher Education Group.
