Professor Marc Markell, special education, along with his sister and co-author Kathryn Markell, had their book about working with young people dealing with grief published by Routledge. "The Children Who Lived: Using Harry Potter and Other Fictional Characters to Help Grieving Children and Adolescents" uses the experiences of Harry Potter and other fictional characters to help educators, counselors and parents work with children and adolescents dealing with loss. Markell, who joined St. Cloud State in 1991, earlier authored "Helping People with Developmental Disabilities Mourn: Practical Rituals for Caregivers," as well as articles in the field of special education.
