The "60s-influenced power-pop band" charted a string of songs in the 1980s and 1990s, including "A Girl Like You," "Only a Memory" and "Blood and Roses."  Led by singer/guitarist Pat DiNizio, The Smithereens continue to tour, write and record, most recently delivering "2011," a 13-cut studio album of originals.

"Mix Magazine," the leading magazine for the professional-recording and sound-production technology industry, gave the release a glowing review. "Fifteen seconds into their superb new release, there’s no doubt The Smithereens are back,” wrote veteran reviewer Barbara Schultz. "This record is full of catchy, well-crafted tracks, defined by those familiar guitar sounds and rhythms, and DiNizio’s deep, expressive voice.

Parking is free on streets adjacent to campus and in lots K and Q. Covered parking in the 4th Avenue Parking Ramp is $1.50 per hour.

The Sept. 13 concert marks a return to campus for The Smithereens. The quartet, which then included original bassist Mike Mesaros, played Halenbeck Fieldhouse Oct. 8, 1988.
