Construction walls block off an area to be demolished and remodeled on the main floor of Atwood.

A $4.8 million construction project in Atwood Memorial Center (AMC) will update space for student organizations, staff offices and infrastructure.

Construction in St. Cloud State's student union is expected to be complete by the start of Fall Semester 2013. Demolition began April 29. Visit the construction project webpage.

The more than 240 student organizations will enjoy a large collaboration spaces, two meeting rooms and four offices on the main floor. Those spaces will be built where the Mississippi Room and Art Gallery are today. View a summary (PDF).

The Mississippi Room will be relocated west of Caribou Coffee. The Art Gallery will be relocated south of the theater.

On the lower level, student organizations will get greatly expanded storage space, a multi-use room and rehearsal room. The rehearsal room is slated to have mirrors, sound system and video-projection system. To make way, the Valhalla Room and associated catering space will be relocated to the Brickyard. Department of Campus Involvement offices and meeting rooms will span the space between the northwest entrance and east entrance. Multicultural Student Services' (MSS) space will be expanded and remodeled. Relocated next to MSS, near the west entrance, will be the LGBT Resource Center. View a summary (PDF).

Patron upgrades include three new main floor restrooms and a relocated foot-washing room. New to Atwood will be a lactation room. View a summary (PDF).

Expect brick repair, re-plumbing, a repaired northwest entrance and information technology upgrades, particularly in the main floor student organizations areas. Among the technology upgrades will be more electrical outlets, computers, printers, phone-charging stations, display screens and teleconferencing capabilities.

Design is by Tom Marcella of Partners & Sirny Architects, Minneapolis. Structural engineering by BKBM Engineers, Minneapolis. Electrical and mechnical engineering by Dolejs Associates, Inc., Mankato. Construction management by Mortenson Construction, Minneapolis.
