KVSC receiving awards
Wednesday, April 10, 2013
KVSC 88.1 FM students and alumni will accept awards at the April 12-13 Midwest Journalism Conference in Bloomington.
Staff at the campus radio station are collecting six first-place Associated Press (AP)awards, five AP honorable mentions and have been nominated for four Society of Professional Journalists Mark of Excellence awards.
News Director Amelia Rowland, Becker, will collect three of the AP awards.
“Being news director has taught me to be prepared for anything and everything,” Rowland said. “There have been multiple events over the course of my work that have taught me a lot about being a journalist. Whether it’s waiting five hours to listen to former President Bill Clinton speak on campus, or covering the death of a fallen officer, I believe these experiences have shaped me as a person and as a journalist.”
KVSC is a student-run radio station licensed to St. Cloud State. KVSC broadcasts eight weekday newscasts and more than 75 Husky Athletics events each year.
Midwest Journalism Conference is a project of the Northwest Broadcast News Association, the Minnesota Chapter of the Society of Professional Journalists, the Associated Press and other organizations.
