"The Vagina Monologues," a celebrated play about female empowerment, will be performed 7 p.m. Feb. 13-14 in Ritsche Auditorium.

Tickets are $5 for St. Cloud State students and $10 for the public, available at the Atwood Memorial Center information desk. Proceeds will fund services and sexual violence prevention programming at the university's Women’s Center.

Parking is free on streets adjacent to campus and a dollar per hour in the 4th Avenue Parking Ramp

Each performance will be preceded by a 6 p.m. silent auction in the Ritsche Auditorium lobby. View the event poster (PDF).

The performances mark Feb. 14 V-Day, a national movement to end violence against girls and women. Specifically, V-Day efforts target rape, incest, battery, genital mutilation and sexual slavery. V-Day was inspired by the play, which debuted in New York City in 1996.

Written by Eve Ensler, "The Vagina Monologues" is noted for its central literary device: a series of actors giving solo speeches on topics such as sex, love, rape, menstruation, female genital mutilation, masturbation, birth and orgasm.

The monologues are based on interviews Ensler conducted with more than 200 women.

Performances are sponsored by the Women's Center and Women's Action, a feminist student organization founded at St. Cloud State in 1970.
