Educators, teachers-in-training and others are invited to register for the Native Skywatchers Middle School Teacher Workshop June 25-26 at the American Indian Center.

Six Native facilitators will share star knowledge unique to the Ojibwe, Dakota and Lakota traditions. Hands-on activities will help participants acquire authentic cultural and scientific knowledge.

Cost is $25 per person. Registration fee includes a notebook, Native Skywatchers curriculum CD, Ojibwe star map poster and more.

Participating teachers will earn 32 continuing education units.

Workshop facilitators are Annette Lee (Dakota), Carl Gawboy (Ojibwe), William Wilson (Ojibwe), Jeff Tibbetts (Ojibwe), Jim Rock (Dakota) and Charlene O’Rourke (Lakota).

Lee, the workshop's lead facilitator, is an assistant professor in the Department of Chemistry and Physics. She is the Planetarium director.

Continental breakfasts, snacks, lunches and a traditional meal are included. Participants are responsible for lodging and transportation.

The welcome and meals will be at the American Indian Center. Sessions will be held in the Wick Science Building, including the Planetarium.

Parking is free on streets adjacent to campus and a dollar per hour in the 4th Avenue Parking Ramp.

The workshop is sponsored by the NASA-MN Space Grant and St. Cloud State University, in collaboration with Fond du Lac Tribal & Community College.
