2012 Math Contest

The 45th SCSU Mathematics Contest starts at 9:30 a.m. following which activities and tours will be offered until 1:15 p.m. March 29 in Atwood Memorial Center, Halenbeck Hall and other campus buildings.

Open to students in grades seven through 12, the contest is sponsored by the Departments of Mathematics and Statistics and Computer Science and Information Technology

Testing rooms open at 9:20 a.m. and testing begins no later than 9:45 a.m.

Since 1968, the St. Cloud State Departments of Mathematics and Statistics and Computer Science have held the annual contest.

Last year, more than 1,600 students from across Minnesota participated, competing for awards against the top 10 percent of students at each grade level.

Here is a question from the 2011 exam given to high school juniors and seniors:

Suppose you randomly permute the letters in CONTEST. What is the probability (rounded to four decimal places) that the two Ts are NOT next to each other?
