Athletic director finalists

Josh Fenton, candidate for athletic director, is associate athletic director-external relations at Miami University, Oxford, Ohio.
Three finalists have been named for the athletic director position at St. Cloud State University. They will interview Wednesday, March 14.
Finalists are Josh Fenton, associate athletic director-external relations at Miami University in Oxford, Ohio; Daniel J. Schumacher, director of athletics at Lewis University in Romeoville, Ill.; and Heather Weems, associate athletics director/senior woman administrator at Drake University in Des Moines, Iowa.
Forums, which are open to students, employees and the public, are scheduled for:
- Schumacher at 2 p.m. in Halenbeck Hall 335/344
- Fenton at 3 p.m. in Student Recreation Center (SRC) 154 (martial arts room)
- Weems at 4 p.m. in SRC 51 (aerobics studio A)

The finalists will spend Wednesday on campus interviewing with various constituencies including students, faculty, staff and members of the community.
Fenton has been associate athletic director at Miami since 2010. He directed activities related to Miami becoming a member of the National Collegiate Hockey Conference. He has also provided leadership and oversight to marketing-sales, ticketing and sponsorships and has served as director of strategic planning for the Athletic Department. Fenton has been at Miami since 2004 when he was named assistant director of corporate relations-director of hockey operations. He has a bachelor’s degree in finance from Iowa State University and a master’s degree in sport studies from Miami University.
Schumacher has been director of athletics at Lewis since 2006. He has been responsible for all athletic executive duties of a NCAA Division II institution which includes Division I men’s volleyball. Lewis has 20 sports competing in three athletic conferences. Schumacher was associate athletic director at Winona State University from 2002-2006 and prior to that spent a dozen years in the finance/banking field with Conseco Finance Corporation in Chicago and with TCF Bank and Mortgage Corp. in Minneapolis. Schumacher has a bachelor’s degree in business administration and a master’s degree in educational administration from Winona State University; and is completing a doctorate in education at Lewis University.
Weems has been the senior woman administrator at Drake since 2009. She has had oversight of NCAA compliance, academic success services, sports medicine and strength and conditioning. Weems has led the development of strategic planning for the Athletic Department at Drake and has advanced a measurable culture of excellence and ethics. Drake is a private school which competes in the Division I Football Championship Subdivision (FCS) as part of its 18 varsity sports. Prior to her work at Drake, Weems spent more than nine years at the University of Denver. She was associate athletics director for student services and compliance and later associate athletics director for internal operations at Denver. She has a bachelor’s degree in psychology from the University of Iowa and a master’s degree in higher education from the University of Denver.
