Pieces by Respighi, Del Borgo and
Bencriscutto will highlight an 7:30 p.m. April 28 wind band concert at Ritsche Auditorium.
"American-Italian Wind Band Connections" will be conducted by Armando Saldarini, Milan, Italy. The concert helps Saldarini complete his master's of music degree in instrumental conducting at St. Cloud State.

Among the pieces to be performed is "Huntingtower Ballad for Band," by Italian composer Ottorino Respighi (1879-1936). The late-Romantic era composer's only piece for the wind band is considered a classic.
"Do Not Go Gentle Into That Good Night," by Italian-American composer Elliot Del Borgo (1938-), is also on the program. The piece is based on the Welsh poet Dylan Thomas' poem of the same name.
Of local note, a piece called "Latina," written by Frank Bencriscutto (1928-1997), will be performed. Bencriscutto was director of bands at the University of Minnesota for 32 years, notably building the the marching band into a nationally renowned performance group.
Tickets, which are available at the door, are $5 for adults, $3 for students/seniors and free with an SCSU ID.
Parking is free on streets adjacent to campus and a dollar-an-hour in the 4th Avenue Parking Ramp.
