Employees raise record funds

Thursday, April 7, 2011

In the midst of the Great Recession, with the specter of layoffs looming, St. Cloud State employees stepped forward and donated a record amount to student scholarships.

University Campaign results announced April 6 are:

  • Donations of more than $195,400, a 1 percent increase over the 2010 record
  • A 34 percent participation rate among employees

President Earl H. Potter was full of praise for administrators, staff and faculty who contributed.

"Your generous gifts will go a long way toward addressing the aim of our campaign theme, "Student Focused, Community Driven," Potter said. "Even as we face uncertain budget issues, we remain committed to providing outstanding learning experiences that will give our students a strong foundation for a meaningful, rewarding life."

In celebration, the St. Cloud State University Foundation will host a reception for campaign contributors 3:30-4:30 p.m. April 18 in Voyageurs North, Atwood Memorial Center. Desserts and beverages will be served. Two student groups, Jazz Combo and Concert Choir, will provide music.

Potter also praised the campaign co-chairs, Rob Reff, Jim Pehler and Tracy Ore, as well as Kurt Stelten, director of development for annual giving and the President’s Club.

Reff is interim assistant dean of students for chemical health and outreach programming. Pehler is a retired faculty member. Ore is an interim assistant provost and professor of sociology.
