HP wins Best of Festival

Husky Productions, St. Cloud State University’s live broadcast of men’s Husky Hockey games, has won the 2011 Broadcast Education Association (BEA) Best of Festival King Foundation award. “Husky Productions: Colorado College at St. Cloud State University” won in the category of Student Video Competition.

The BEA Festival of Media Arts is an international refereed exhibition of faculty creative activities and a national showcase for student work. The festival seeks to enhance and extend creative activities, teaching, and professional standards in broadcasting and other forms of electronically mediated communication.

Husky Productions was one of 15 faculty and student works chosen to receive the award. Josh Akkerman, Husky Productions producer, leads the all-student production.

Husky Magazine, UTVS sports-themed show, won second place in the studio category of the student competition. Jordan Weinand, also the Husky Productions ice-side reporter, produces the broadcast.

Best of Festival winners will be honored at the 9th Annual BEA Best of Festival King Foundation Awards Ceremony in Las Vegas Monday, April 11, 2011. During the ceremony, recipients will be recognized with a high-definition screening of their winning project, a cash award of $1,000 from the Charles and Lucille King Family Foundation, and a gift of Media Composer film and video editing software from Avid Technologies.

The Best of Festival winners for 2011 were selected from a pool of 913 entries, from 143 colleges and universities in the following competition categories: audio, video, documentary, interactive multimedia, news, scriptwriting, sports, and two-year and small colleges.
