Nadinne Cruz is an internationally respected speaker, author and consultant on public-service education. She will facilitate multiple discussions on community engagement.


Consultant Nadinne Cruz, President Earl H. Potter III, faculty and staff will discuss community engagement during January Workshop Days.

Community partnerships are a key theme of St. Cloud State's mid-year assembly of employees, ideas and information.

Workshop activities are Jan. 5-8 in Atwood Memorial Center (AMC), Miller Center and Stewart Hall. View the schedule.

Other January Workshop Days themes include using Web 2.0 teaching strategies, leveraging classroom data, assessment and online learning. 

Cruz, an internationally respected speaker, author, and consultant on public-service education, will facilitate a community event 6:30-8:30 p.m. Jan. 5 in AMC's Cascade Room. The event, which is titled "Celebrating our Community Partners: Moving Forward," will bring campus and community thinkers together.

Formerly the director of the Haas Center for Public Service at Stanford University, Cruz has held a Lang Professorship for Issues in Social Change at Swarthmore College, and was the executive director of the Higher Education Consortium for Urban Affairs in St. Paul.

Cruz will moderate a panel discussion called “A Vision for Community Engagement” 8:30-10:30 a.m. Jan. 6 in the AMC Ballroom. Panelists will be Earl H. Potter III, St. Cloud State president; Dave Kleis, mayor of St. Cloud; Brian Myres, head of sales for ING Direct; Noreen Dunnells, executive director of the United Way of Central Minnesota; and Tracy Ore, associate professor of sociology.

She will facilitate two community engagement workshop sessions January 6.

The president's spring semester address is 9-10:15 a.m. Jan. 7 in Ritsche Auditorium. The address will discuss, among other things, budget challenges, community partnerships and building projects.

January Workshop Days is managed by the Center for Excellence in Teaching and Learning, St. Cloud State's engine for inquiry and critical engagement.
