ST. CLOUD, Minn. – President Earl H. Potter III has named Glen Palm to the position of interim dean of the College of Education.

Palm, a professor and chair in the Department of Child and Family Studies, has been an innovative and active leader in the College of Education since joining St. Cloud State as an assistant professor in 1983.

He initiated the Parent Education licensure program in 1985 and has since served as its coordinator. He has served as chair of his department three times during his tenure. His areas of expertise have been parent education programs and services for fathers, ethics in parent education and program evaluation for family literacy programs.

Palm has provided parent education services for District 742 and District 47 since 1984, including Saturday morning programming for fathers and their young children, co-parenting class and a parenting class in the St. Cloud Correctional facility since 1995.

He has been involved with the Greater St. Cloud Area Thrive Initiative that has been funded by the Initiative Foundation for the last three years. This is an Infant Mental Health collaborative project with District 47 Early Childhood Family Education Program to increase the capacity of professionals and future professionals in our area to support social emotional development in young children and to provide appropriate mental health services for young children and their families.

“I am excited about the College of Education being invited to be involved in the Bush Foundation’s Education Initiative and the opportunities that this will create for shaping education in Minnesota over the next 10 years,” said Palm.

Palm replaces Kate Steffens, who is stepping down to take a position at Walden University as dean of its Riley College of Education and Leadership.
