Renowned authors highlight children's literature workshop

ST. CLOUD, Minn. -- Author Doug Wood and author/illustrator Nancy Carlson are featured presenters at the June 22-23 Children’s Literature Workshop.

Celebrating its 30th year, the conference at the Holiday Inn in west St. Cloud will provide information and inspiration for educators who use literature in their classrooms.

Wood, Sartell, Minn., has authored 24 books, including "Old Turtle" and "Grandad’s Prayers of the Earth." He has two books coming out in 2009. View Wood's Web site.

A resident of Bloomington, Minn., Carlson has authored more than 50 books, including her newest volumes "Think Happy" and "Henry and the Valentine Surprise." View Carlson's Web site.

The workshop is sponsored by St. Cloud State University's Center for Information Media.

For an additional fee, the workshop can be taken for one semester credit as IM 445 or IM 545. The workshop may also meet clock-hour requirements for teacher licensure.

Tom Kehoe, author of the forthcoming series "The Unusual Mind of Vincent Shadow," will share ideas on the creative process.

Small-group presenters will be Pat Heine (Celebrating Award-Winning Books of 2008-2009); Julie Barkley (Celebrating Books with Stamping); Cheryl Whitcomb (Celebrating a Reading Challenge that Works for Kids); and Nancy Carlson (Celebrating Drawing with Nancy).

Participants may attend three of the four sessions.
