College of Fine Arts & Humanities dean named

ST. CLOUD, Minn. - St. Cloud State University Provost Michael Spitzer has announced the appointment of Todd DeVriese as dean of the College of Fine Arts and Humanities, a post he will assume on July 15.  With conclusion of a national search and DeVriese’s appointment, Professor of English Sharon E. Cogdill, who served as interim dean of the college for one year, will be rejoining the faculty.   

DeVriese comes to St. Cloud State from Texas Tech University, Lubbock, Texas, where he was director of the School of Art and art professor.  He was an associate professor of art at Ohio State University, prior to which he was interim dean for the Arts and Sciences and a department chair at Zayed University in the United Arab Emirates. 

The new dean’s experience includes strategic planning, international programming, assessment and digital media.  His art work has been broadly exhibited nationally and internationally.  He earned his bachelor in fine arts and a master’s in science from Illinois State University and his master’s in fine arts from Ohio State University.

As dean of the College of Fine Arts and Humanities, DeVries will be responsible for the recruitment, development and evaluation of faculty and staff, and undergraduate and graduate programs in nine departments and more than 20 disciplines in music, theatre, film studies, dance, art, English, foreign languages and literature, philosophy, communication disorders, communication studies and mass communication.  He will report directly to the provost.   

St. Cloud State offers its 17,000 students more than 200 undergraduate and graduate programs in five colleges:  Business, Education, Fine Arts and Humanities, Science and Engineering, and Social Sciences.
