It's springtime in the garden

ST. CLOUD, Minn. – The fifth season of the Community Garden, a space where people can participate in planting, growing and harvesting their own food, will begin with planting days on May 9 and 16.
Volunteers are invited to the first planting day on Saturday, May 9, and the second day on Saturday, May 16. Planting at the site on Fifth Avenue South, between Fifth and Sixth streets, will be from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. each day.
The Community Garden was organized five years ago by Tracy Ore, associate professor of sociology, and other volunteers. It has since grown into a campus-community endeavor where volunteer gardeners can connect with each other, with the land, and with the food they plant, nurture, weed, harvest, eat, preserve and share.
Besides sharing duties of weeding, watering and other garden chores, campus and community volunteers participate in on-site cookouts and other gatherings.
Plans also are being made to expand the concept this year with several new and expanded community gardens. More information on the planting days and on possible additional sites.
