ST. CLOUD, Minn. - Through June 22, St. Cloud State University is soliciting photographs for an online publication called “Springtime in the Beaver Islands.”

University Communications (UCOMM) will publish about 50 photos documenting humans, flora and fauna, in and around the Beaver Islands. The more than 30 islands form a natural maze for a two-mile stretch of the Mississippi River adjacent to campus.

The islands -- some of which are owned by the St. Cloud State University Foundation -- are among the most beautiful jewels in the campus crown.

The photos will be displayed in slide shows available from the front page of, the St. Cloud State web site.

Likely subjects include:

Classroom activities on or about the river
Recreation activities on the Beaver Islands Trail
Fishing from the shore or in boats
Canoeing and kayaking
Rowing Team workouts
Eagles, vultures, waterfowl, hawks
Beaver, deer, foxes, coyotes, squirrels

Flowering plants, shrubs and trees
Aerial views of the river, islands and riverbanks
Views on the islands
Sunrises, sunsets, the moon and stars
Views of Husky Stadium from the river
Recreation activities at Riverside Park

Procedures and expectations

E-mail high-quality JPEG photos with identifying information, including:

  • Photographer’s name
  • Date, time and location of photo
  • Full name and hometown for each human
  • Description and/or names of plants and animals

Photos used in the slide shows will be credited to the photographer. Photos may be used, with photographer’s credit, in other UCOMM publications.

Photographers freely submit copies of their photos without compensation, knowing photos will not be returned.


Attach to an e-mail JPEG photos totaling no more than 9 MB. Include the identifying information (described above) in the body of the e-mail, correlating the information to the file names of the photos. Send the e-mail to
