New student success leader

Effective July 1, Bruce Busby is the new associate provost for student success/dean of University College.

Since 2009, Busby has served as associate vice chancellor for academic success at Indiana University-Purdue University, Fort Wayne, supporting access, retention and enrollment management.  He has played leadership roles in the degree access and completion initiatives in the states of Ohio and Indiana.

He replaces Miguel Martinez-Saenz, who took a position as provost and vice president of academic affairs at Otterbein University, Westerville, Ohio. 

An award-winning teacher, Busby has served as journal editor, executive director and president of the Association for General & Liberal Studies. He serves on the programming council of the National Conference on Race and Ethnicity.

Busby earned his bachelor's degree in honors English from Southeastern Louisiana University, Hammond, Louisiana. He holds a master's degree and doctorate in English from the University of Tennessee, Knoxville.
