Area junior high and high school girls are gathering at the Horizons Conference March 22 at St. Cloud State.
In its 24th year, the conference promotes female participation in science, engineering, math and technology.
The keynote speaker is Enanga Fale '04, an engineer with UTC Aerospace Systems, a North Carolina-based defense and aerospace contractor. She earned her bachelor's degree in electrical engineering.
Also presenting is Jennifer Struffert Abon '04, who has worked since 2004 as an engineer and parts manager for Cummins, Inc., an Indiana-based multinational that designs, manufactures, sells and services diesel engines and related technology. She earned her bachelor's degree in electrical engineering.
Among the activities will be a LEGO@ build of a replica Cummins QSK95 engine, a motivational activity for aspiring engineers. The QSK95 is a 95-liter, 4,000-horsepower, diesel engine used in rail locomotives.
Horizons Conference is sponsored by Cummins, Inc., Central Minnesota Manufacturers Association, UTC Aerospace Systems and these St. Cloud State entities: Society of Women Engineers and Office of Admissions.
