Debra Carlson, director of the Lindgren Child Care Center.
NCCCC has more than 620 members nationally who represent two- and four-year colleges and universities that provide early care and education programming, leadership and advocacy. Carlson was selected for her leadership and positive impact on early care and education on campus and throughout the state. She will be recognized at the NCCCC annual conference in Portland, Ore., in April.
"Her commitment to ensuring high quality early education, support and responsiveness to the needs of all families, her tenacity in securing grant funds for needed services and her open and gregarious leadership style have won the respect and admiration by those that work with her," wrote Maria Scaiaraffa, president of NCCCC, in a letter to St. Cloud State.
Carlson has been director of the Lindgren Child Care Center since 1980.
The center provides infant, toddler, and preschool-aged care to the children of St. Cloud State students, staff and faculty. Children are challenged by an environment and activities based on developmentally appropriate practices, and implemented by a professional staff of licensed teachers assisted by university students. The program helps children know their individuality, understand their special worth and develop self-discipline, tolerance and understanding of individuals different from themselves.
