Celebrating international impact

Sergio Lavanchy Merino of Universidad de Concepcion, President of the Institute of International Education (IIE) Allan Goodman and St. Cloud State President Earl H. Potter III with the Heiskell Award at IIE's annual conference in New York.
"Celebrating International Achievements" 10 a.m.-3 p.m. Feb. 5 in Atwood Memorial Center will highlight two national distinctions: The 2013 Simon Award for comprehensive internationalization and the 2013 Heiskell Award for best practices in international partnerships.
The free public event in the ballroom will include presentations by students and student organizations, an education abroad fair and cultural mini-lessons on writing in other alphabets, origami and Chinese calligraphy.

"Our international students add vibrancy to our academic community, and their presence in our classes brings an important international perspective to all students," said President Earl H. Potter III.
The Simon Award for Comprehensive Internationalization is named for the late Senator Paul Simon (D-Ill.), who supported international education and foreign language learning. In its 11th year, the award is presented annually by NAFSA: Association of International Educators.
The Heiskell Award is awarded annually by the Institute of International Education, an independent, New York City not-for-profit founded in 1919.
