Research Institute opens

King Banaian, economics professor and director of the School of Public Affairs Research Institute.
The School of Public Affairs (SOPA) announces the opening of the SOPA Research Institute. The institute will facilitate research by students and faculty and provide research expertise and data to outside constituents and stakeholders.
The Research Institute open house is 2-3:30 p.m. Feb. 20 in Stewart Hall room 329. The event is free and open to the public. Parking is free on the streets adjacent to campus and a $1.50 per hour in the 4th Avenue Parking Ramp.
The Research Institute will integrate research assets such as:
- Center for Economic Education
- SCSU Survey
- St. Cloud Area Quarterly Business Report
- Spatial Analysis Research Center
- Winter Institute conference
- Minnesota Economic Development Center
King Banaian, economics professor, will serve as director. In his new role, Banaian has been engaged in conversations with community and faculty partners interested in research opportunities. The institute has signed more than $80,000 in grants and contracts with businesses, non-profits and governments.
A faculty member since 1984, and co-author of the St. Cloud Area Quarterly Business Report, Banaian has worked as a consultant with the central banks of Ukraine, Egypt and Macedonia and the ministries of finance of Indonesia, Macedonia and Armenia. He is a fellow of the Armenian International Policy Research Group in Washington, D.C., and the Center of the American Experiment in Minneapolis.
