More than 700 people are expected to do the Minnesota Polar Bear Plunge into Pleasant Lake Feb. 15 to raise funds for Special Olympics Minnesota.

In 2013, more than 15,000 participants at 16 locations raised more than $3 million for Special Olympics Minnesota. The event, now in its 17th year, is managed by Minnesota law enforcement agencies.

Pleasant Lake is southwest of St. Cloud near the intersection of Minnesota Highway 23 and Interstate 94. Participants, some dressed in outlandish clothing, will begin jumping into the water about 1 p.m. at the 400 Supper Club, on the lake's north shore.

The pre-plunge check-in is 3-6 p.m. Feb. 14 in Centennial Hall. The same-day check-in at the 400 Supper Club begins at 11 a.m. Shuttle buses will run from the CashWise grocery store in Waite Park and Atwood Memorial Center.

Special Olympics Minnesota offers children and adults with intellectual disabilities year-round sports training and competition.

At the 2013 Pleasant Lake plunge, 720 plungers raised $113,882.
