Watch captain Nic Dowd and the top-ranked men's Husky Hockey team host Union College Dec. 13-14 North Star College Cup, Minnesota's NCAA Division I hockey showcase, is Jan. 24-25 in St. Paul 

National polls and rankings say men's Husky Hockey is the top team in college hockey.

The PairWise, which mimics the NCAA Division I tournament selection process, ranked St. Cloud State No. 1 after a 4-2 win in Duluth Dec. 6. A 5-1 Dec. 7 win over University of Minnesota-Duluth completed the sweep, the team's fourth this season.

One major poll, of journalists and coaches, ranks University of Minnesota first and St. Cloud State second. View the USA Today/USA Hockey Magazine Poll.

The Huskies were last No. 1 for a few weeks during the 2001-02 season.

This weekend

The stage is set for a Dec. 13-14 series at Herb Brooks National Hockey Center between the No. 1 Huskies (11-1-2) and No. 9/10 Union College (11-3-2). The Huskies are top dogs in the National Collegiate Hockey Conference. The Dutchmen are tied for the lead in the ECAC Hockey conference. Next month

St. Cloud State plays No. 2 University of Minnesota 7 p.m. Jan. 24 at Xcel Energy Center in the inaugural North Star College Cup, Minnesota's NCAA Division I hockey showcase.

Alumni Relations and Husky Athletics will host a pre-game gathering 2-6 p.m. Jan. 24 at Tom Reid's Hockey City Pub, two blocks west of the Xcel Energy Center.
