UTVS takes two top awards

St. Cloud State students earned best newscast and best sportscast awards at the Oct. 31-Nov. 2 National Student Electronic Media Convention in San Antonio.
The honored shows, "UTVS News" and "Husky Mag," are produced in Studio 1 at UTVS, located in the lower level of Stewart Hall.

Each show required the work of a dozen or more students in newsroom, production, broadcast and on-location roles.
UTVS has delivered student-produced television programming since 1978, earning regional and national awards, notably a 2013 Best of Festival Award from the Broadcast Education Association.
UTVS News is broadcast in the St. Cloud area on Charter Cable channel 21. Men's Husky Hockey games are broadcast on Charter Cable channels 823 (HD) and 426 (SD).
The National Student Electronic Media Convention is sponsored annually by Pennsylvania-based College Broadcasters, Inc.
UTVS' Fall 2013 leadership includes:
- Emilio Ramos De Jesus, general manager, a junior from Princeton
- Mitch McDermott, station manager, a senior from Minneapolis
- Leah Carr, news director, a senior from New Prague
- Josh Nguyen, news director
- Jeremy Klein, sports director, a sophomore from Avon
