Mapuche delegation from Chile

St. Cloud State is hosting a delegation of Mapuche from Chile Sept. 27-Oct. 3.
Representatives from the South American nation's largest indigenous group will share their art and culture and visit with Minnesota indigenous groups.
It is believed to be the first official Mapuche visit to Minnesota.
The 10-member delegation, sponsored by the Chilean National Corporation for Indigenous Development, is composed of regional and community leaders, musicians, artists, weavers and specialists in Mapuche culture.
Delegates will seek to establish relations with Minnesota indigenous peoples, especially regarding bilingual education and language preservation. Other purposes include exploring market interest in Mapuche handicrafts and specialty products.
Members of the delegation will visit St. Cloud State classes and Central Minnesota business organizations.
