Math education major Drew LeBlanc is competing for what could be one of the highest honors ever earned by a St. Cloud State student.

The senior men's Husky Hockey captain is one of three finalists for the Hobey Baker Memorial Award, college hockey's top honor.

The Hobey Baker criteria include outstanding skills in all phases of the game, strength of character on and off the ice, sportsmanship and scholastic achievements.

A 23-member selection committee will announce the winner 5 p.m. CDT April 12 at the Frozen Four in Pittsburgh, on the NHL Network and via

Leblanc, who hails from Hermantown, is balancing student teaching at Apollo High School, St. Cloud, with leading St. Cloud State (25-15-1) to the NCAA Men's Ice Hockey Tournment Frozen Four. The Huskies play Quinnipiac University 7 p.m. CDT April 11 at CONSOL Energy Center. 

LeBlanc earned the Player of the Year and Outstanding Student-Athlete awards from the Western Collegiate Hockey Association (WCHA), a sweep unprecedented in league history. He is a four-year WCHA Scholar-Athlete.

He earned 24,707 votes in fan balloting, the most among the Top 10 candidates announced March 21.

The selection committee includes members of print media, electronic media, National Hockey League scouts, college hockey coaches and officials.
