A unique meal Nov. 14 at the Husky Den in Garvey Commons will help the St. Cloud State University community experience what it means to be among the world's 1 billion undernourished people.
Participants in “A Meal to Change the World,” an Oxfam America Hunger Banquet, will randomly draw tickets that assign them to different income levels, based on the latest statistics about the number of people living in poverty. Some will receive a filling dinner, while others will eat a simple meal or share sparse portions of rice and water. Through this simple meal, attendees will learn about hunger, homelessness and poverty.
Tickets are limited to 100 and will be given first-come, first-serve. Doors open at 5:30 p.m.
"A Meal to Change the World" is co-sponsored by Sodexo, United Way of Central Minnesota, Oxfam America, the Department of Campus Involvement, the Department of Residential Life and Multicultural Student Services.
Monetary donations will be accepted to purchase cows for families in need through Oxfam America. Nonperishable food items will also be collected and donated to local food shelves.
