Day of the Dead
Monday, October 22, 2012
Campus and community are invited to a Day of the Dead celebration 12:30-1:45 p.m. Oct. 30 in Atwood Ballroom.
Known as Día de Los Muertos in Spanish, it is a traditional Aztec ceremony honoring the dead. It is celebrated in Mexico and parts of the United States and is sponsored on campus by the Movimiento Estudiantil Chican@ de Aztlán (M.E.Ch.A.) student organization.

This year's theme is Maestros y Mentores/Teachers and Mentors. Altars will celebrate family, friends and activists who dedicated their lives to mentorship and education, including the late Steve Casanova and Michael Tripp, former faculty members.
Participants are invited to give offerings to those who have passed at alters in the Atwood Memorial Center Alumni Lounge. Traditional items include photos, dried food, bread, candy, books and candles. Altars will stay up through Nov. 1.
The opening ceremony will feature a performance by Danza Mexica Cuauhtemoc, a Minneapolis-based Aztec dance group.
