Hmong self-help study
Thursday, October 4, 2012
Shoua Yang, professor of political science, will deliver remarks on the evolution of Hmong self-help organizations noon Oct. 8 in the Glacier North room of Atwood Memorial Center.
The free public presentation kicks off the Immigrants in Minnesota Brown Bag Lecture Series, a monthly offering of the Faculty Research Group on Immigrant Workers in Minnesota.
There are a few different types of self-help organizations, classified by purpose, that assist the Hmong in adapting to life in American culture.
The central research question of Yang's research is how these organizations' programming focus and funding strategies have evolved.
Attendees are welcome to bring their lunch. The Immigrants in Minnesota Brown Bag Lecture Series is supported by the School of Public Affairs and the College of Liberal Arts.
