The Somali Night 2012 is 6:15 p.m. March 31 in Atwood Memorial Center Ballroom. This year’s theme is “A celebration of the five historical regions.”
Somali Night 2012 is organized and presented by the Somali Students Association of St. Cloud State. A portion of the ticket sales will go towards relief efforts for the drought that took place in the Horn of Africa last year.
The evening is an opportunity for the campus and the community to learn more about the food, music, dance, ethnic dress and culture of Somalia. The evening will include traditional Somali dances, songs, poetry and a dinner of Somali fare.
Traditional dances will include Sharah, Dhaanto and Saylici/Jandheer and the songs will comprise two Somali language songs and one English song.
The dinner menu will feature traditional Somali food such as beef sambua, rice with chicken or beef, vegetables and traditional Somali chai (tea).
Tickets are $8 with SCSU ID and $12 for faculty and community members.
Doors open at 5:30 p.m. and the show starts at 6:15 p.m.
The Somali Student Association event is co-sponsored by the SCSU Cultural Diversity Committee and Multicultural Student Services.
