Edible Book Festival

Tuesday, March 15, 2011

Some of the Edible Book Festival entries on display in the lobby of the James W. Miller Learning Resources Center Thursday, April 7, are likely to be as sweet as the birthday cake that will be served at the competition.

The festival and party will culminate a series of events Learning Resources & Technology Services has sponsored to commemorate the Miller Center’s 10th anniversary.

The festival, a competition of entries created of edible materials that must look like a book or be inspired by a book title, character or scene, will be one of many like events celebrated around the world.

Entries at other festivals have included such titles as The Brothers Karamatzah, S'more and Peace, Alice in Wonderbread, The Bun Also Rises, Goodnight Moon Pie and Curd Vonnegut.

Admission and participation are free. Registration must be submitted by April 5 by submitting the form located at http://lrts.stcloudstate.edu/showcase/mc10thanniversary/ediblebooks.asp, or calling (320) 308-2022. Donations of non-perishable food items for the Salvation Army Food Shelf will be welcome.

The public display of the festival entries and voting for the Fan Favorite award will be from 10 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.

The 10th anniversary ceremony and awards will begin in the library atrium at 2 p.m., followed by cake and refreshments.

Judges will include Amy Bowen, food writer at the St. Cloud Times, Kathryn Gainey from the St. Cloud State Art Department faculty, and others to be announced closer to the event. Each entry will receive recognition on the library Facebook site.
