MIB accepts Polar challenge

Friday, February 11, 2011

The SCSU Man in Black will take the Polar Bear Plunge on Feb. 19.

The SCSU Man in Black is responding to University of Minnesota-Duluth (UMD) Black’s Polar Bear Plunge challenge: Bring the cold.

Last week, UMD Chancellor Lendley Black threw down a “double dog dare” to St. Cloud State University Husky Nation in a friendly competition: Which school can raise the most money for Special Olympics Minnesota in the Feb. 19 Polar Bear Plunge?

Despite UMD’s sizable lead at the time of the challenge, 15 teams for UMD compared to SCSU’s two teams, the SCSU Man in Black will champion the comeback cause at St. Cloud State.

Special Olympics Minnesota is sponsoring 12 Polar Bear Plunge events statewide between Feb. 12 and March 12. In 2010, the Polar Bear Plunge included more than 7000 participants and raised $1.4 million.

The local site for the event is the 400 Supper Club on Pleasant Lake, Rockville.

The SCSU Man in Black’s mission is "Making the campus and community better through positive action." Join the cause on the Man in Black's Facebook page.
