Closed/suspended programs

Saturday, May 1, 2010

University officials are working with students affected by academic program changes announced March 15.

Students interested in degree completion in a closed or suspended program must contact the department that manages admission to the program and become admitted to the program no later than May 7, 2010, according to Devinder Malhotra, provost and vice president of academic affairs.

The best contact for information about any academic program is the department, Malholtra said.

Students who are unsure how to proceed may also contact the Advising Center or the Office of the Provost.

"We are committed to support these students through the completion of their degrees, but it has become clear through our Strategic Program Appraisal efforts that we are offering too many programs with too little student interest," said President Earl H. Potter III in his March 15 announcement.

"Our resources and academic focus are stretched too thin and our shrinking resource base will no longer allow us to maintain these efforts," Potter said.

Less than 1 percent of the student population, or 135 students, is enrolled or has stated an intention to enroll in programs to be suspended or closed, Potter said.
