Girls Choir of the Old Town Music House

The Girls Choir of the Old Town Music House, from Tallinn, Estonia, is on their first concert tour of the United States. The group is performing at 7 p.m. Tuesday, March 2 in the Bethlehem Lutheran Church in St. Cloud.

The group is performing at 7 p.m. Tuesday, March 2 in the Bethlehem Lutheran Church in west St. Cloud.

The choir’s visit is jointly sponsored by the St. Cloud State University Department of Music, the American Choral Director’s Association, Cantabile Girls Choir, the Youth Chorale of Central Minnesota and Bethlehem Lutheran Church. 

Their repertoire consists of sacred music from different eras, and music created and arranged by Estonian composers−original pieces and re-workings of folk songs.

The choir garnered the special prize of the jury at the international choir festival "Tallinn 2005" and first prize at the Tolosa International Choral Competition in Spain, in the children's choir category.

The Estonian choir is comprised of 14-18 year old girls and led by Maarja Soone, the group’s conductor. Soone was named "Young Conductor of the Year 2007" by the Estonian Choral Association.

Also performing is the Cantabile Girls Choir and the Youth Chorale of Central Minnesota. The evening will focus on sharing and learning musical traditions. 

All are welcome to attend the event. Tickets are $8 for adults and $5 for students, and available at the door. 

Bethlehem Lutheran Church is located at 4310 County Road 137 in St. Cloud.

In addition to their performance, the Girls Choir of the Old Town Music House is  performing for and working with St. Cloud State students in the music and foreign languages departments March 2−3 in Ruth Grant Recital Hall, Performing Arts Center.

  • 1 p.m. Workshop 5.
