Shoestring Film Fest

Monday, February 1, 2010

ST. CLOUD, Minn.− St. Cloud State University’s Computer Store is sponsoring the eighth annual Shoestring Film Fest, a free, short-film contest open to all St. Cloud State and St. Cloud Technical and Community College students.

Students compete for cash prizes by working in teams of three or more to create three- to five-minute digital films edited with Apple iMovie software. The theme of the short-films can be about anything the students choose.

Prizes include a cash award of $225 for top honors with $125 for first runner-up, $50 for second runner-up and $50 for People’s Choice Award. Additional prizes include $15 Apple iTunes Gift Cards for early submissions and audience prize drawings of iPod Shuffles.

Entry to the contest is free and entry forms are available at the St. Cloud State Computer Store located in Miller Center, B42, and online at huskynet.stcloudstate.edu/computerstore. All submissions are due by 4 p.m. Thursday, April 15 at the Computer Store.

A public screening and awards ceremony will take place 6 p.m. Thursday, April 29 in the Miller Center auditorium where the winners – determined in advance by a panel of judges – will be announced. Audience members in attendance that evening will also determine the winner of the People’s Choice Award.

The Shoestring Film Fest began in 2003 as the DV Fest to give students an opportunity to showcase original, short-film, digital video creations and to compete for prizes and recognition of their work.

The competition is an outreach of St. Cloud State’s Computer Store, a unit of Learning Resources & Technology Services that operates as the campus reseller of computer hardware and software to St. Cloud State University, St. Cloud Technical and Community College and to students, faculty, staff and emeriti at St. Cloud State.
