Nelly Ortiz will present “Why We Leave: A Firsthand Account of Migration to the U.S.” at 2 p.m. Friday, Dec. 4, in the Atwood Theatre. The event is free and open to the public.

Born in Cuenca, Ecuador, Ortiz will speak about her experiences as an immigrant living in Chicago, scenarios for immigration reform and the structural explanations for immigration that are often ignored.

The event is sponsored by St. Cloud State’s Faculty Research Group on Immigrant Workers in Minnesota.
