Musical opens Friday

Anna Rooney is directing an Oct. 16-17 benefit musical for the Music Department.
A musical based on Charles Schultz' Peanuts comic strip runs Oct. 16-17 in the Performing Arts Center recital hall.
"You're a Good Man, Charlie Brown" is a produced by a group of St. Cloud State music students. Directing the 90-minute production is Anna Rooney, a senior music education major from Rockford, Ill.
Clark Gesner wrote the words and music for the show, which has been mounted numerous times off-Broadway, on-Broadway and on television. Kristin Chenoweth won a Tony Award playing Lucy in the 1999 revival of the show.
Children 11 and younger can participate in a prize drawing by submitting a drawing of a favorite Peanuts character.
Performances are 7 p.m. Oct. 16 and 2 p.m. Oct. 17.
Tickets, which are available at the door, are $12 for adults, $7 for students, children and seniors, and $30 for a family.
Proceeds benefit the Music Department's scholarship fund.

YOU'RE A GOOD MAN, CHARLIE BROWN opened on March 7, 1967 and played for 1,597 performances in New York at the theatre 80 St. Marks with Gary Burghoff in the title role. This version was revived briefly on Broadway in 1971 and played for 32 performances at the John Golden Theatre. A new revival version (YOU'RE A GOOD MAN, CHARLIE BROWN ([REVISED]) was presented on Broadway in 1999 and played for 149 performances at the Ambassador Theatre.
